Vital services protected for another year

Earlier this year blind and partially sighted people were devastated when they learned of plans to cut the Eye Clinic and Equipment services delivered by YBPSS.

A campaign was initiated to reverse these plans, which was led by the society and clients themselves. The RNIB Yorkshire and Humber Campaigns Officer heavily supported the campaign and wrote letters to key people within NHS North Yorkshire and York and spoke at the Local Authority Scrutiny Committee raising concerns about the plans. Everyone worked tirelessly to raise awareness and outlined the importance of these services to the people they serve and what the impact could be should these services close.

In April YBPSS learned that their campaign against decisions to cut the two services had been successful, when their revised proposal for delivery of the Eye Clinic and Equipment services had been accepted by the Primary Care Trust. This meant that they would not only be able to continue delivering these services but have the freedom to enhance them.
