Improvements at Scarborough hospital

Following meetings with Scarborough hospital, significant progress has been made in tackling the problems blind and partially sighted people have in accessing the hospital facilities.

  • Four Visual Awareness training courses for staff were to be delivered in partnership with the local society.
  • All ophthalmic clinic letters which were issued in 14 point, will now be increased to 22 point print.
  • The Facilities Director agreed to explore third party confidentiality agreements and investigate how to provide braille for a service user.
  • The Low Vision Clinic Manager confirmed all Low Vision letters are sent out in 22 point aerial.
  • New signage had been put up in the Low Vision Centre.
  • Their first publication on cataracts in large print (18 point) has been issued.

These are all fantastic improvements, and we hope to see more to come across the region.
