Access to Work campaign

Access to Work is a scheme run by Jobcentre Plus. The scheme provides advice and practical support to disabled people to enable them to work along-side their colleagues despite their disabilities. We have been campaigning for some time for improvements in the Access to Work programme.

Successes and challenges

We have met with some recent successes including an additional £15 million of funding, a commitment to publicising the programme and the extension of the programme to include people doing voluntary work. These followed successes in reducing delays following national benchmark standards implemented in 2008 and reduced regional variations across Great Britain regions following moves towards better national management and a national contract.

Our chief current campaign activity centres around improvements to the quality of Access to Work support packages and the adoption of floor standards for quality in the programme.

What can I do?

We're always looking for case studies to make our work more effective. Real stories can make a huge difference to any campaign. If you've had a poor assessment or reassessment please and would be happy to share it, please email us at campaigns@rnib.org.uk
