Protect your local services

Local authorities have the potential to transform the lives of blind and partially sighted people, even in the toughest times. The decisions local authorities make now are more important than ever as further reductions in support for blind and partially sighted people could tip lives into a spiral ending in isolation, ill health and despondency.

RNIB's Quick wins and missed opportunities report offers practical advice to councillors on how to improve local services for blind and partially sighted people. Designing inclusive and accessible services means also getting it right more widely for local residents.

Are you a local councillor?

We have also produced a council motion (Word, 116KB) that you can present for debate at the next full council meeting that you attend.

Alex's story

There's one bus a day that goes past my house so if I wanted to get to a job interview the following day at 9am I would have to catch a bus at 1pm the previous day!
