About the Trainee Grade Scheme

RNIB's Trainee Grade Scheme (TGS) supports unemployed blind and partially sighted people to help them into permanent sustainable employment. Our research has shown that the main reason blind and partially sighted people struggle to get jobs is often their lack of work experience; however you cannot get experience if you do not have a job.

The scheme provides trainees with paid employment for 50 weeks. It gives valuable work experience, on the job training and development and the support of a dedicated Employment Development Officer to help them into permanent employment. Trainees are recruited into roles that provide training for the job at hand as well as development for future employment.
