Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has worked in partnership with RNIB since 2004, when they funded a piece of research called 'Money Matters'.
The research focused on the experiences of blind and partially sighted people in their use of everyday banking services. The research found that the vast majority of blind and partially sighted people would prefer to take control of their financial affairs for themselves, but are unable to because of numerous barriers.
The barriers include cash machines being inaccessible to blind and partially sighted people and websites being incompatible with screen reading technology. In 2011 RBS funded a further research study on the same topic.
RBS sponsorship
In 2011 RBS provided an impressive £46,000 of sponsorship. In 2009/10 £32,000 was received from the RBS group lottery and £10,900 from staff payroll giving.
In 2011 RBS sponsored the following projects:
A 'Money Week' on Insight Radio, (RNIB's radio station for blind and partially sighted people)
The radio broadcast provided listeners with information on a range of money matters such as managing debts and obtaining benefits and grants from financial experts. It also provided vital links to impartial advice from financial organisations.
RNIB's 'Managing Your Money' booklet and factsheets
The materials provide essential information on where to source expert financial advice on everything from budgeting, saving money on utilities, maximising interest on savings and knowledge of your human rights.
"We are pleased to be supporting RNIB's Managing Your Money materials which will raise awareness of the types of services available to help make it easier for people to manage their finances."
