How you make a difference

Help invest in jobs for blind and partially sighted people.

Employment

We work with human resources and diversity teams to make their recruitment and retention strategies inclusive to blind and partially sighted people. With the right technology and assistance a blind or partially sighted person can often do the same jobs as a sighted person. However, three quarters of working age blind and partially sighted people are out of a job.

Our aim is to enable blind and partially sighted people to gain and retain employment, develop their careers and have the tools to work as effectively and independently as possible. Your fundraising efforts help us to offer a full employment support scheme with information and advice and a consultancy service for employers.

Talking Book Service

Your money helps to run our Talking Book Service. Started in 1935, it's a unique service offered by RNIB, which records and creates full-length audio books accessible to people with sight problems. Over 40,000 people in this country currently subscribe to RNIB Talking Books range of over 15,000 books.

Helpline

RNIB's Helpline offers an immediate, expert and confidential service. The helpline can give details of support groups and services, information on eye conditions, registering as blind or partially sighted and living with sight loss.

As well as providing a friendly, knowledgeable person to talk to, the helpline provides reassuring, practical advice. Most importantly, it links callers to vital services which enables them to get on with their lives.

Eye Care Liaison Officers

Eye Care Liaison Officers (ECLOs) provide an immediate point of contact for someone who is newly diagnosed with serious sight loss. They provide emotional support, information and advice on services available and create a bridge between hospital, optometric and community-based services.

Family Services

As a parent of a child whose son or daughter has been diagnosed with a problem with their sight can be an anxious time. Feelings of worry and uncertainty about the future can be hard to cope with. RNIB's Family Services include days out for the whole family, evenings out and regular support groups. We also run residential activities, including vacation schemes and family weekends, and clubs run on a regular basis.

Our latest project

One of our current projects is RNIB's Rushton School and Children's Home. Your support will help RNIB to provide a vital educational and residential service for blind and partially sighted children with severe disabilities and complex needs.
