Congratulations Tiri Hughes!

Tiri Hughes receiving the Torbay Award

Tiri is the youngest, the first girl and most importantly first person with sight loss to ever win the Torbay Disabled Sports Personality of the Year award.

At aged 14, Tiri has overcome failing eyesight to succeed in both her chosen sports of gymnastics and swimming.

Well done Tiri, it's wonderful to be able to congratulate you on this amazing achievement!

How we've worked with Tiri

Tiri has double elevator palsy and has been using RNIB's services throughout her life to ensure she can do the things she loves the most, like reading and playing music.

Tiri is an active member of our Actionnaires club and thanks to the efforts of fundraisers for Read for RNIB Day, Tiri has enjoyed reading books we have on offer at our library as well as having her Harry Potter Trivail Pursuit game instructions enlarged at our Transcription Centre. Over the years Tiri and her mum Laura have had advice and access to IT and educational products and publications.

When Tiri was just 8 years old, she was featured in an RNIB video. Watch Tiri's video to find out more about her story.

Feeling inspired?

There are so many ways that you can help children like Tiri to achieve their dreams. Why not start by planning your own Read for RNIB Day. Have you thought about leaving a legacy gift? A third of our vital work supporting blind and partially sighted people is only possible thanks to people remembering us in their Will.
