Mai and Ashley

Twitter volunteers to the rescue!

Mai Perry-Gosling, Ashley Clarke and Ian Pouncey came to the rescue two weeks ago when we needed extra volunteers for a collection at Paddington station. Ashley, Mai and Ian responded to an appeal for help on social networking site Twitter and left their computer screens to get out there and shake those buckets!

After the collection Mai said:
"What shocked me most was how much fun I was having. I felt I was doing a pretty good job for a pretty important cause. One elderly gentleman even beamed at me, 'you're doing such good work. I wish I had your courage!' By the end of the session I was feeling more like a little hero than a nuisance."

For more about Mai's experience, visit her posting on the beautifulworld blog. Thank you to Ian for sparing his time to help out and to beautifulworld for allowing Mai and Ashley to give their time.

Join our team of fundraising volunteers

Last year we raised over £100,000 from station and store collections like this - and this couldn't be done without help from volunteers like Mai, Ashley and Ian. We're always looking for people to spare a couple of hours so if you think you could help please get in touch.

We have two big collections coming up in London in December:

  • Wednesday 2 December - collection at Waterloo train station
  • Tuesday 15 December - collection at London Bridge train station.

For more information about the London station collections, please email Helen Marriott at helen.marriott@rnib.org.uk
