Read for RNIB Day Wonderland

Join our Read for RNIB Day event on 19 October

October 19 is Read for RNIB Day and you are invited!

We are holding a unique free Wonderland pop-up event, from Thursday 18 October to Saturday 20 October near Southwark Cathedral in London to highlight the importance of reading and to celebrate Read for RNIB Day.

What you will find in Wonderland

Come along to our Wonderland, and experience the different senses engaged when enjoying a story - starting with "falling" through the rabbit hole. There are plenty of areas to ponder, to admire curiously, to sniff deeply, or to listen sharply to as stories are told under giant mushroom sound clouds! We'll have tactile areas too, and a bookshop featuring signed books from the likes of David Walliams, Steven Merchant and Julian Fellows.

Authors and celebrities including children's author Sally Gardner, Barry Hutchison and CBBC presenter Ben Hanlin will also be hosting reading workshops designed to help children discover the thrill of reading.

Actor Michael Sheen OBE has recorded quotes from well known children's books to be played in Wonderland. He said:

"Reading and stories are such an important part of childhood; they're what inspired me to write. It's terrible to think that some people are denied this because they can't see. I heard about RNIB's work and wanted to get involved in Read for RNIB Day. We hope to inspire and encourage people to read and get involved in the campaign"
