Technology support for blind and partially sighted people

Our Technology Support Squad is a team of volunteers based throughout the UK who are there to help blind and partially sighted people by phone or with a home visit to make the most of technology.

"After a home visit from the Technology Support Squad I've once again realised my independence through technology. The volunteer spent as much time with me as I needed. Nothing was too much trouble."

Technology support services

The Technology Support Squad can help people with sight loss to:
  • understand instruction manuals
  • get the most out of their television, including setting up Freeview, satellite or cable equipment, installing a DVD player and discovering audio description
  • tune in digital radios
  • stay connected with family and friends using their landline or mobile phone
  • get to grips with a new computer or laptop, including investigating any problems with software, screen readers and hardware like braille displays, printers and monitors
  • open up a world of information by connecting to the internet and social networking
  • keep up to date with the latest news, gossip or entertainment by finding out if their favourite newspaper or magazine is available from our National Talking Newspapers and Magazines service
  • access an audio library at home with a demonstration on using a DAISY talking book player and how to order books from our National Library Service.
