AD TV's

I have been trying to find a Television with Auto description (AD) built in, but the only ones I can find are big screens 24" and above. On the AD Webpage says all Panosonic have it on all their TV's, but when I rang them up they said they only have it on their large TV's. As I am a blind person (with no sight) why would I need a large Telly? I have AD on my Goodman Free View box but it is not holding its memory, it keeps going to the home page. So has anybody come across a 14-16, 19" (Largest Telly size) with AD? I know all TV's are compatible, but why do we have to pay twice, for the Auto Description, it should be built in to all size TV's.
Many thanks.
Heather

Hello Heather, I understand the reason for you trying to find a smaller TV for price reasons. I am blind to. If you go to the Morrisons supermarket they make a TV called TECHWOOD one of there own makes with builed in AD. It cost about £80-00 Pounds. How well it works I would not be able to let you no. The screen size is 15".

Hi Heather,

All Panasonic televisions and almost all modern television equipment in the UK can receive audio description. It sounds like the person you spoke to is confusing audio description with voice guidance. Voice guidance is a feature on Panasonic televisions that enables you to use the most common features on the television through speech including finding programs you want to watch and setting reminders so that you don't miss the start of the program.

Voice guidance on Panasonic TV's is one of three talking TV solutions available at the moment. The other two are the Smart Talk set top box and the TVonics DTR-HD500 Freeview+ HD recorder. The TVonics recorder is similar to the Smart Talk box but it also allows you to record programs and play them back later.

There is a page about Accessible TV devices on the RNIB website which also mentions the Sky Talker and Apple TV. We have also got videos on the RNIB Products and Publications channel on YouTube about both the Panasonic voice guidance feature and the TVonics set top box.

audio description will only give you feedback on what is going on during a programme when there is no speach going on at that point.

as for a smaller tv that has talks built in, i was lead to believe that all Panasonic models that are coming out 2012 will have it on, it may be worth checking with someone like currys instead. there is a list on this very website that will give you model numbers of all the panasonic tv's that have it. try taking that along to the shop with you,

In reply to Javed, the "talking tv" reads the menus and the EPG so there is no need to randomly flick through channels.

Hello
I actually don't know your answer, but you made me curious about the AD function. although I am blind, I wonder why a TV should talk? I can easily zap the TV channels without a need to spoken directions. Does this AD function read the channel names too or it only announces the channel numbers? Would you please tell me what this feature is good for?

Thank you
