I heard about the talking TV however they cost a lot of money, I'm using the Smart Talk freeview digital box and despite it having it's moments I find it very helpful, and I wouldn't pay over £400 to get a talking TV. And also there is a new freeview box on the market which now also allows you to record it costs more than Smart Talk but then it has more possibilities. So I think that the talking TV is not necessary the best option on the market, and it isn't the cheapest too. But then that's only my opinion.

Many thanks for your information about the talking pc set up Stewart Millward! It all seems a bit complicated for me but I'm sure that someone more technically capable than me will be able to use to help clients that i assist. Its a very cost effective method compared to the very expensive tvs!

Talking TVs are overrated, I've set up a voice enabled PC for my parents that works perfectly for as a TV and all for about £400 it allows them to do the following.. All by voice commands

Navigate the TV channels
Browse the TV guide
Set up recordings
Play music
Record DVDs and Blurays to watch later
Browse recorded TV and TV series
Download music
Stream the TV over radio to use it in any room of the house
Watch YouTube videos

And by the way this all works flawlessly without error

Here is a short demo... Sorry it stops half way I was interrupted by the post man.

What's needed?
Dual core windows 7 PC with HDMI out £180
2 channel satellite TV Tuner card £85
Amulet Microphone Remote (import only) £120

that's it then your ready to go. My parents (both fully blind) have used this flawlessly everyday for about a year and a half. The only downside is that its freeway tv only as it can't decode encrypted sky channels but instead of the tv tuner you can get a different setup that relays commands to a skybox instead.

Hello
That's perfect to know talking TVs are available now, but we usually don't find it hard to do regular daily works with TV. I would very much like to find a spoken PVR or satellite receiver, since I can't find my required channel in the list. Anyone has ever happened to notice such thing?

Thank you

It's great to hear what you think of Panasonic's range of TVs with Voice Guidance. You can find a factsheet about the TVs and YouTube demonstrations of the Voice Guidance features on our website: http://www.rnib.org.uk/livingwithsightloss/tvradiofilm/tvradiofilmnews/Pages/talking_television_panasonic.aspx
