What pocket DAISY devices do people like the best?

Hi all,
Over the last 4 years I have bought 3 Bones Milestone players (1 Milestone 311 and 2 Milestone 312's). One of the Milestone 312's is still working fine because it's only 9 months old but the other 2 have broken just over the 2 year mark (the Milestone 311 has got a broken SD card slot and the Milestone 312 won't play through the loudspeaker, only the headphones because the internal printed circuit board has broken). Considering that I've spent over £1,000 with Bones over the last 4 years, I'm very unhappy with the quality of the device components (I don't use these devices that much to warrent breakage this quickly); can anyone recommend another DAISY multi-function player and recorder?

I really want something that will play DAISY books, read a range of audio files, read text-based files with a text to speech reader, tell me the time and date and have a good battery life. I don't care how much this costs but it must be good quality because I'm fed up with buying equipment that is specifically designed for us as blind people, for it to be very, very expensive and only to find that that it breaks in just 2 years.

Considering that I bought a Nokia 6630 phone in 2004 and a screen reader to make it accessible, that still works fine after 8 years and was a similar price to what I paid for the Milestone 312!

The existing Milestone 312 was bought for use with my PhD studies and I need this new player for personal use. Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Steve Carey.

I do feel your pain, I also hait when technical equipment goes wrong after a short amount of time. I've recently ordered the Booksence T50 from RNIB it reads word documents, plays DAISY audio files, a wide range of MP3 audio files and also has a very high quality voice recorder and up to 12 hours battery life. I would recommend it highly as I'm using it every day and I also used it even to record my radio shows and was always happy to rely on it's useful features. I was using it also for my GCSE revision and yes it won't go wrong after 9 months for sure.
I hope it helps, believe me I wouldn't recommend something that I wouldn't trust.
Kind regards
Hubert.
