Scanthing #EyesFree now on Google Play

Hi,

I am a founder of a successful mobile document management app on Google Android called Scanthing (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.scanthing.android). It allows our users to take a picture of a document and to extract text from it with a high degree of precision.

We got approached by a a bunch of blind or partially sighted individuals who loved what we were doing but needed some enhancements to make it work for them.

We recently did all this work and have released it yesterday onto the marketplace. It essentially allows users to navigate our app using Google technology designed for the blind (Explore by touch, Talkback) and allows them to capture an image, extract text and play-back text using Text to Speech all through a single click.

One of our key objectives was to deliver these features all for $5 on a modern android mobile device rather than the hundreds to thousands of dollars charged by other companies for similar functionality.

I would like to thank members of this forum who helped immensely in providing feedback. To name just two, Steve Nutt and Paul Warner but there were more.

I do hope you find the app very useful if not indispensable as that is our aim. Also note, we are looking to make enhancements in the next few months so if you have suggestions we are very eager to hear them. We already have some very interesting ideas that I look forward to sharing with this forum shortly.

Any questions I am happy to answer them here or via mail@scanthing.com.

Rgds
Ravi

I encourage you to join this group if you have an Android device and are interested in what Google and other App providers like us are doing for the Blind and Partially sighted.
