Where is the beauty?

Hi All,

Hope you're all doing good.

I have been asked by my family if I would like a talking watch for Christmas this year. I already have one with a black leather strap which is nice and does the job, but would like a silver talking watch that is more stylish and dressy. Before I needed a watch that speaks to me, I used to have some really pretty watches and used to get lots of comments on how lovely they were. Looking for attractive, sophisticated-looking and dainty ladies' talking watches is somewhat of an impossible task. I know they need to be somewhat bulkier than the mainstream designs, but most, I am told by my family, look more like mens' watches and that there are none that have an attractive appearance. Just the odd tiny crystal here or there and/or a faceless watch with a nice design on it would be so much nicer to wear.

We don't want to have to wear an ugly piece of jewellry irrespective of whether we can see it or not! Might as well strap a talking clock to my arm ...

Does anyone know where I can find an attractive ladies talking watch, preferably silver/stainless steel?

Any advice much appreciated.

hello miss fb. May I start by asking If you have ever considdered a tactile watch. My reason for asking is I am totally blind and prefer to use a tactile watch which I recently bought from rnib. I decided to buy one of these instead of a talking watch because even though there are some very stylish talking watches,A tactile watch looks exactly the same as a watch that a sighted person would wear. The tactile watch is also very discrete. You can find out the time without anyone else hearing it. My watch only cost me £24,99 from the rnib shop. it is very dressy, with a silver bracelet strap. the watch face is also silver. and very sophisticated looking, or so I am told by my sighted friends. Not bad for £24,99 i'am sure it will prove invaluableto me when i begin my course at rnc next year. that's not to say that talking watches are no good. On the contrary. there are as i just said some very nice ones. its all about what you prefer. i am just pointing out that i have a tactile watch because there may be other people reading this who think they are no longer available as did I.

Hi Miss FB and Kerry, the silent watch sounds brilliant, i will definately look into this myself. With regard to Ladies watches, maybe worth checking www.styleable.co.uk, not sure if they have anything directly on the site, if not, drop Kiesha (The girl that runs the site) an email on info@styleable.co.uk, she works with VI people and loves fashion so may be able to point you in the right direction!

Good luck with finding something less like a talking clock with straps!

Miss FB,

Something "might" be of interest is the Tissot Silen-T this is unfortunately a full size mans watch and not knowing how dainty or robust your wrists are I am unsure of whether or not it would be appropriate.

What is good about this thing is that it doesn't sound like you have Stephen Hawking in your pocket, but it allows you to tell the time without needing to see the watch. It does this by silent vibrations as you run your finger around the bezel/face it will vibrate intermittently when you hit the minute hand and steadily when you get to the hour hand. A very slick way to do it if you ask me! I have tried one that a friend has and it is surprisingly intuitive and accurate. The other nice thing about it being silent is that you can tell how long the person you are talking to has been boring you without being too obvious about it!

Good luck with your search, let us know how you get on.

All the best

Kerry
