Using Twitter

Hi everyone,

We have a profile on social media website Twitter: http://twitter.com/RNIB

I know plenty of blind and partially sighted people do use the site but it's not without accessibility issues. I asked RNIB's twitter followers how they use twitter, what is the best screen reader to use, and if they could recommend any free or cheaper software.

They came back with lots of ideas, can you add any more?

* NVDA with Qwitter or Qwitter with Window-Eyes

* tweet60 on a mobile phone running talks is a reasonable option, version 1.34 seems to be most reliable of all (but another user commented "although, tweets60 1.34 will probably stop working end of June when twitter brings online its new API")

* Window-Eyes of course

* I use the Twitter client Qwitter from http://is.gd/cICsu which runs with all major screenreaders including latest free NVDA

* Definitely Jaws, reads it really well

* Well must say that for out of the box ease of use I am loving Snow Leopard

* I use JAWS, but have heard NVDA works well. Also Qwitter, from www.qwitter-client.net has support for SAPI5 as well as screenreaders

* You can use NVDA the latest version with qwitter they work great together

* I use jaws all the time. I feel the price is ridiculous though. Maybe if it went down a little......

Hi,

I use Easy chirp after discovering that Qwitter was no longer being developed. It works well on the desktop PC along with Jaws. I've just started using an iPhone, so yet to find a preferred way of accessing twitter.

I use twitter too however I use totally different software and apps to operate it. I use Thunder screen reader, with it I use Webbie the text web browser and then I use Easychirp which is an accessable website for the twitter.com website. It works exceptionally good and I'm using twitter this way for months now and would recommend this to other blind and partialy sighted people. It will cost you absolutaly nothing if you like American screen reader versions, and if you like English version then Thunder english voice will only cost you £25 so worth a try I think.
Hope it helps
