Hi! I'm enjoying your updates Tezzie it makes me smile thinking of the early days of training with my dog Trudy. It seems so long ago now though it's only just gone 12 months. Trudy went through a phase last December of having accidents on virtually every walk I took her on. It can be a bit embarrassing can't it but I started doing dummy runs with her like you mentioned Katherine, and it really helped. In fact for a while it was part of our routine to do a dummy run an hour before we went out. You might have to do two or three of these though to kickstart your dog into a good spending routine.
Another thing I learned (the hard way!) is that if your dog has been holding onto its stools for a couple of days, when it finally relieves itself there may be a backlogue waiting to come out. So it's a good idea to keep count of the number of "busies" it's missed then you won't have a nasty surprise in the Town Centrre when you start going out routinely again!
Hope Charlie's traffic shyness gets sorted soon James. It's weird how dogs get suddenly spooked isn't it. Trudy completely out of the blue became scared of walking over man-hole covers. She still is now and will walk a semi-circle in order to avoid one, Have another good day tomorrow Tezzie. What breed is Uma?

hi tezzie, i'm glad you do some of what i said yesterday evening. i'd ask your trainers about this when they visit you. when is that going to be? for other dogs well, i ask my trainer about that and got shown some techniques. it depends which side the other dog is coming from, if its coming from the left you take your lead in your right hand and say leave it firmly. if its from the right you need to get her to sit and take the lead with both your hands until the other dog has pasted you. if you are walking in harness and the other approaches you, say leave it followed by come on which gives your dog a choice. keep up the good work and please feel free to email me anytime you need someone to talk or even just wish to vent your feelings. kathryn

Hi, i dont do number one but do 2 and 3 of what you mentioned but she still lunges towards other people, still pulls me when she's excited or see's leaves in the road! and tries to pull me into it and pulls me now when she see's other dogs.
I hope it stops soon as i have a very bad left arm, it has also been operated on and i cant take much more of her pulling me about as it can't be doing my arm any good.

hi all, tezzie i read in your blog about uma pulling you to the park for her free run. i had that with ivo for quite a while. you might like try a few of these tips to see what works for you and uma. i put ivo's collar to just behind his ears and tighten it up to keep it there as this is where the muscles are not so strong. i also hold his lead just above the second clip for more control. i pull him towards me and say steady or no every time he pulls me on his lead or harness. you can also try flicking her and saying no or steady every time she pulls you. ivo is now a lot better with this. hope this helps you? kathryn x
