RNIB NI are hosting a one day conference, entitled 'Lost In Translation?
Towards The Construction Of A Public Policy Framework That Works for blind and partially sighted people In Northern Ireland.'
Held on International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2012, this event is designed to ignite debate about how the forthcoming Disability Action Plan under the NI Executive's Disability Strategy - due for imminent publication - can best be combined with the UK Vision Strategy and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, to ensure that the delivery of public policy in Northern Ireland guarantees that the rights, needs and life chances of blind and partially sighted people, along with those of the wider disability community, are upheld, met and radically enhanced.
A detailed programme will be released the week beginning 5 November 2012.
The Conference will consist of the following;
three informative and thought provoking keynote critiques of the current situation and analysis of what steps need to be taken next;
workshops for participants to identify an agenda for progressive change based on achievable concrete actions;
a 'Question Time' style discussion, with audience interaction, anchored by a local broadcast media personality and featuring a panel of people with sight loss together with key figures from the equality enforcement & promotion, journalism and NI Assembly worlds;
a reception will conclude proceedings, to afford opportunities for networking.
