Event details

Discover the fascinating differences between the Victorian and Edwardian drawing rooms at The Geffrye, museum of the home - through audio description, object handling, sounds and smells. The themes of decoration, heating, lighting, cleaning and entertainment will be explored through items such as carpets, washing dollies, slug irons, tea caddies and delicate china cups. Tea will be served afterwards, along with the opportunity for informal discussion and socialising.
This event is designed for blind and partially sighted people who are interested in visiting museums and galleries, but don not have regular access to a companion who can accompany them. VocalEyes has teamed up with Shape Arts and trained 15 of their volunteers in guiding techniques. Volunteers will be available to meet visitors at a main public transport stop and accompany them to the Geffrye museum. The volunteers will also be available to accompany them around the venue and back to a main transport stop.
