Volunteer managers

Welcome! This site is your resource and is great if you:

  • Coordinate, support or manage volunteers
  • Are thinking about involving volunteers in your team

As you know, over the last 18 months RNIB has been working closely with Action for Blind People, National Talking Newspapers and Magazines and Cardiff Vales and Valleys (previously Cardiff Institute for the Blind) to support even more blind and partially sighted people to lead full and independent lives.

4,200 volunteers across RNIB Group are giving us over 40,000 hours each month. This has a monetary value of £5 million a year.

With the help of our volunteers we will:

  • Stop people losing their sight unnecessarily
  • Support more people to live independently
  • Create an inclusive society for everyone

Volunteers work with blind and partially sighted people in their homes and the community, as well as at RNIB Group offices. Volunteers are involved in many different projects, from service delivery, to planning and user participation.

We are here to support you every step of the way from making initial volunteering plans, through to recruitment and advice on the day to day management of volunteers.

Sainsbury's Charity of the Year 2013

Every year, Sainsbury's invites nominations from shoppers and staff for a local charity for each store. The chosen charities are then supported by their local store, with a year's worth of fundraising and store events. This is potentially a fantastic opportunity as on average, the partnership raises £2,000. This could make a real difference to local services in your area, such as helping to provide RNIB's Talking Books service and Technology Support Squad for members of your community, placing Eye Clinic Liaison Officers in more hospitals and clinics or helping your local Actionnaires Club to provide activity days for children with sight loss. But we can't do it without your help!

inVOLve - your volunteering update

Here's our latest edition of 'inVOLve', bringing important updates to anyone who manages, supports or coordinates volunteers.

Call on volunteers to put up a poster to help our new campaign

We are writing to RNIB Group volunteers asking them to spread the word about avoidable sight loss by putting up a poster where they live.
