Workshop Outline
Once you have worked with the Group Volunteering Team (GVT) to understand the volunteering policies and procedures, this workshop is the next step in further developing your role as a volunteer manager. The workshop covers good volunteer practice, people management and communication skills to help you to enable and support your volunteer. The day is structured to encourage discussion and interaction from delegates.
Pre-requisites for the course
You must have contacted your GVT Volunteering Co-ordinator to discuss involving volunteers in your team and/or attended the 'Involving Volunteers' training; completed your NVIS (Volunteering Database) training and completed the CRB Witness Checker Training.
Workshop Focus
At the end of the workshop delegates will be better able to:

Understand the difference between volunteers and staff

Understand the legalities of involving a volunteer

Conduct informal interviews with volunteers and feel confident declining offers of interest from volunteers

Equip volunteers to start their role

Supervise volunteers as appropriate to their service

Give feedback to volunteers on their work

Have challenging conversations with volunteers
Who should attend?
This workshop is aimed at people new to managing volunteers; in addition it will be a useful refresher for existing volunteer managers.
