Are you a blind or partially sighted person who wants to raise awareness of sight loss in society? Do you want to develop your presentation skills and interact with children and young people in a classroom environment? We are building a team to design and deliver understanding sight loss workshops to schools and colleges. This is an excellent opportunity to share your experiences of sight loss, whilst educating others and gaining experience yourself.
This role does not require a CRB check
What will I be doing?
-
Attending workshops to develop an understanding of how children learn
-
Developing two interactive one hour modules appropriate for both primary and secondary/FE students

Delivering at least 4 workshops over a year to students in schools, colleges and other community settings.
What skills and qualities can I bring to this role?

An ability to communicate with children and young people

Comfortable with public speaking

Desire to challenge negative perceptions of sight loss and to promote inclusion for blind and partially sighted people in society

Knowledge of (or willingness to learn about) adaptations and Assistive Technology solutions that assist blind and partially sighted people to access information and retain their independence, such as screen magnifiers/large print/braille etc.
How much time will I need to commit?

2-3 half day training workshops at the start of the project

We need you to deliver at least 4 one hour workshops, plus travel time to and from locations, each year.
Location
You will be visiting schools/colleges within a reasonable distance from your home.
