Our centre in Bedminister, Bristol provides practical help and support to blind and partially sighted people of all ages.

To enable our clients to attend meetings at the centre we require volunteer drivers to transport clients from their homes and to the centre and back to their homes.

You must be over 18, have a full licence, a valid MOT certificate and proof of insurance.

The role requires an enhanced CRB check.

What will I be doing?

Collecting newly diagnosed visually impaired clients from their homes in and around Bristol and bringing them in to the Action for Blind People Centre in Bedminster, Bristol. This is for new clients to attend our Information Sessions. The meetings will last for 2 hours from 2pm-4pm. At the end of the meeting the clients will be taken back home again.

There are also occasions when we call upon our volunteer drivers to carry out specific driving tasks for our visually impaired clients or volunteers for meetings in the Bristol area.

When will I be needed?

Information Sessions take place every couple of months on Wednesday Afternoon between 2pm and 4pm. You will be contacted early in advance to check if you are available.

This is an ongoing project requiring a driver for a few hours every couple of months, as well as the occasional driving as mentioned above.

Where will I be volunteering?

In and around the Bristol area.

What will I gain from the role?

What support will I be given?

• Induction Training
• Expenses - Mileage at 45p per mile and any other out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed including expenses to attend training
• Supervision and support from your volunteer manager/ co-ordinator
• Invites to Volunteer get togethers throughout the year
