Getting out and about can be a worrying and stressful experience for blind and partially sighted people. We need your help to ensure that they are able to join in all the activities that they would like to, going home having experienced a great holiday here in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.
An opportunity exists for lively people to drive blind and partially sighted people on outings, both local and day trips further afield. Once at the locations, you will act as a "sighted guide" to enable our hotel guests to gain as much as they can from the experience.
This role requires an Enhanced DBS Check.
What will I be doing?

Assisting residents in and out of mini bus if required

Acting as a sighted guide, enabling blind and partially sighted people to find their way around places of interest

Assisting the activities organiser in the smooth running of outings (eg helping to organise meeting places, meals when out)

Referring to members of staff when the need arises
What skills and qualities can I bring to this role?

Clean and full driving licence (D1 licence)

Good communication skills and empathy with blind or partially sighted people of all ages

An interest in the locality and in enabling guests to get the most out of their holiday experience

A friendly and outgoing personality

An ability to communicate with people from all walks of life

A flexible approach to the role

An ability to follow instructions from the activities leader, and to liaise with other volunteers
When will I be needed?
The hours are flexible, approx 4 hours a week, or more if you are able to offer this.
Location
Location and distance of trips will vary, departing and returning to Lauriston Hotel, Weston-Super-Mare. Destinations around Weston-super-Mare and further afield eg National Trust properties, Cribbs Causeway or Clarks Village.
