Campaign Co-ordinator (Person with sight loss)

Campaign Coordinators are blind and partially sighted people who are committed to changing society for the better in their local areas, whilst helping to secure a better deal for people living with sight loss. We will support you to identify, plan and take action on local campaigning issues, organise RNIB's campaigns at a local level and lobby MPs, NHS trusts, local authorities etc.

This role will not require a DBS check

What will I be doing?

  • Identifying, planning and taking action on local campaigning issues whilst feeding updates back to the team

  • building links and developing contacts with relevant local organisations, groups and individuals;
  • keeping supporters abreast of campaigns and supporting their involvement in activities
  • helping to organise campaign events and activities
  • Publicising agreed campaigns to local media and local decision makers and influencers such as MPs, councillors etc.
  • You may also be supported to take on roles within your local community (such as NHS trust boards) where opportunities exist.

What skills and qualities can I bring to this role?

You do not need prior experience of campaigning, the following skills are desirable:

  • Good organisational skills.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, including the willingness to speak to new people, both to individuals and groups.
  • Ability to listen to the opinions of others and consider different points of view
  • Good understanding of issues affecting blind and partially sighted people.
  • Good local knowledge and an ability to identify local issues

When will I be needed?

Flexible to suit volunteer, but a commitment of at least 20 hours (3 days) a month would be desirable.

Occasional attendance at regional events, meetings or training may also be required; this will vary from region to region

What will I gain from the role?

The Campaign Coordinator role presents a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop new skills, build confidence and create positive change in your local area:

  • Opportunity to influence key decision takers to the benefit of blind and partially sighted people.
  • Development of campaigning skills and experience.
  • Experience of working with decision makers including MPs, local authorities etc.
  • Experience of working with local media.
  • Opportunity to take part in national events and make links with other blind and partially sighted campaigners across England.
  • Support to take on further positions of responsibility at a local, regional or national level, where you wish to do so.

What support will I be given?

The Campaign Coordinator role is expected to last for a period of up to two years during which time you will receive lots of training and support to develop your skills. At the end of this period there may be an opportunity to move to a new role as a Volunteer Campaign Leader.

Support for the Campaign Coordinator role includes:

  • Induction and training on campaign related topics and activities.
  • Supervision and support from your regional campaigns officer.
  • Expenses - all out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed including expenses to attend training.
