Would you like to help provide administrative support for a small group of volunteers working with blind and partially sighted people? We are looking for someone who can coordinate new requests from blind and partially sighted clients who would like to work with a volunteer, liaise between volunteers, clients and the Project Coordinator and help facilitate administrative aspects of the project.

An enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) disclosure check is required for this role.

What will I be doing?

  • Contacting a blind or partially sighted person about what element of the service they require and gathering relevant information about their needs
  • Coordinating new requests for a volunteer from within a geographic area. This will include identifying a suitable volunteer in your team and arranging an initial session between the client and volunteer
  • Contacting or visiting blind or partially sighted people, where necessary, to introduce the volunteer and discuss what the volunteer and buddy will be doing
  • Following up with clients and volunteers after their initial buddy sessions to gather feedback
  • Supporting volunteers with their regular monthly statistics reporting and expense claims

When will I be needed?

The Volunteer Group Leader role is a flexible role and will depend on when you are available and when the service is required.

Where will I be volunteering?

The Volunteer Group Leader will mainly be based from your home and will involve communicating with people via the telephone and/or by e-mail. Also, if preferred, you could be based in the Birmingham office when volunteering. However, there may be very occasional home visits when necessary but only if agreed by the Project Coordinator.
