Lending your voice and enthusiasm to help blind and partially sighted people access their local newspaper. From time to time there maybe other items to record such as newsletters, books or information leaflets. You will be part of a lively team of staff and volunteers who record these items using a specialist audio digital system.

This role does not require a DBS check.

What will I be doing?

  • Attending your local transcription centre on a regular basis to create audio recordings from text

  • Reading a range of materials aloud clearly, accurately and in an appropriate manner
  • Describing non-textual materials such as graphs, photographs or illustrations clearly and succinctly

What skills and qualities can I bring to this role?

  • A clear voice which is pleasant and engaging for the listener

  • Good attention to detail
  • Able to accurately and fluently read a diverse range
  • Confident using a computer and learning a new software package
  • Comfortable working unsupervised in a studio environment
  • Flexible, reliable and willing to attend relevant training
  • Ability to work to strict confidentiality guidelines
  • Willing to closely follow instructions, in-line with standards and processes

When will I be needed?

This opportunity is organised on a rota system, with specific times to be agreed between yourself and the team.

Action for Blind People Office, Stoke-on-Trent.

  • Understanding Sight Loss training
  • Expenses - all out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed including expenses to attend training
  • Supervision and support from your volunteer manager/ co-ordinator
  • Initial and on-going training sessions as appropriate
