RNIB Tate House provides a caring home for older people where independence, community and individuality really matter. We need enthusiastic volunteers to help out with activities, which allow our residents to continue hobbies, learn new pastimes, get together with others, and get out and about.

This may include quiz nights, bingo afternoons, music, outings, reading, card games or doing crosswords. You may wish to share an interest you have and run a new activity.

This role requires an Enhanced DBS Check.

What will I be doing?

  • Helping to set up and run existing activity sessions
  • Developing and delivering new activities, if you wish
  • Organising independent activity sessions if required
  • Socialising with residents during the activities and outings
  • Referring to members of staff when the need arises e.g. Personal Care

  • An empathy with elderly blind or partially sighted people
  • An understanding of confidentiality
  • Flexible and reliable

When will I be needed?

Tate House has a very flexible approach to this and we do not specify set hours. Volunteers give as much time as they feel able to as all our activities are on-going. We only ask that volunteers give us notice if they are unable to come in.
