Are you a good listener? Are you friendly, patient and able to build a good rapport with people? If so, we need enthusiastic befriending volunteers to help blind and partially sighted people with the small tasks they cannot do. Helping them build their confidence, feel less isolated and remain independent in their home.

An Enhanced Access NI check is required for this role.

What will I be doing?

  • Working on a one-to-one basis with the blind or partially sighted person in the person's home.

  • Providing support and listening skills.
  • Advise people on RNIB and other services that are available to them locally
  • Assist with reading post, newsletters or magazines
  • Helping with correspondence
  • Assist with enquiries about Talking Books

When will I be needed?

  • The hours for this post are flexible (preferably daytime/ weekends)

  • Visits vary from weekly, fortnightly or monthly

Where will I be volunteering?

You will be visiting clients in their homes within the Lisburn City Council area.

What support will I be given?

  • Induction
  • Understanding Sight Loss training
  • Expenses - all out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed including expenses to attend training
  • Supervision and support from your volunteer manager/ co-ordinator
