RNIB NI is committed to supporting blind and partially sighted people through a range of services that we provide. The befriending service supports isolated blind and partially sighted people and hopes to build up their confidence. The service ensures people remain independent as much as possible and to help them with the small tasks that they find they cannot do. An enthusiasm to enable clients to take part, awareness of their needs, effective listening skills and a natural empathy for people is expected.
This role will require an Access NI Enhanced with Barred List check.
What will I be doing?

To work on a one to one basis in the client's home

Listen and support

Provide some guidance around basic issues e.g. how to contact social services

Advise people on RNIB services that are available to them locally

Assist with reading post, newsletters or magazines

Helping with correspondence

Assist with enquiries about Talking Books

Providing regular updates with staff

When will I be needed?
The hours for this post are flexible (preferably daytime/ weekends)
Visits vary from weekly, fortnightly or monthly
Where will I be volunteering?
You will be visiting clients in their homes in the Coleraine, Ballymoney and Ballycastle areas.
