Tandem Pilot - Lisburn and Coleraine

Do you enjoy keeping fit, meeting new people and exploring your local area? Tandem cycling is a great way to have fun, stay healthy and get to know blind and partially sighted people in your area. The volunteer Tandem Pilot will be on the front, allowing the person with sight loss to cycle behind as a Stoker.

An Enhanced Access NI check will be required for this role

What will I be doing?

  • Cycling around the local area as a Tandem Pilot, with a blind or partially sighted person on the back - known as a Stoker
  • Describing the scenery as you cycle both urban and rural routes
  • Promoting and coordinating the use of the RNIB NI tandem bikes
  • Regularly devising and participating in cycle rides of different lengths

  • Organised, friendly and enthusiastic
  • Enjoy working as part of a team
  • Good sense of direction
  • Knowledge of or willingness to explore local cycle routes

When will I be needed?

This role is flexible and we will contact you to arrange your involvement.

This role is available in Lisburn and Coleraine

  • Understanding Sight Loss Pack
  • Visual Awareness Training
  • Tandem pilot training if required
  • Expenses - all out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed including expenses to attend training
  • Supervision and support from your volunteer manager/ co-ordinator
