Preparing a range of texts - from knitting patterns to study material - ready for transcription into accessible formats for blind and partially sighted people.

What will I be doing?

Inputting data: scanning or typing text into word processing software

Accurately proofreading, editing and structuring text on screen, working to the original printed document

Structuring documents using specialist software

Cutting, binding, labelling and despatching finished products as required
What skills and qualities can I bring to this role?

Excellent attention to detail
-
Accurate typing at a reasonable speed

Good level of literacy and ability to proofread a wide variety of materials

Confident using a computer and in particular Microsoft Word and scanning software

Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines
-
Willing to closely follow instructions, in-line with standards and processes

Able to work unsupervised
When will I be needed?
This opportunity is open ended and there is no set time commitment, however we hope that volunteers are able to donate enough time to fully utilise the training provided by RNIB.
Specific hours are to be discussed and agreed between you and your volunteer manager.
Where will I be volunteering?
Belfast Transcription Centre, Durham Street.
