Visual Awareness Training Support (Sighted person) - Lisburn

Do you have a strong interest in the issues concerning people with sight problems? Are you confident in front of large groups? Do you have good experience in using audio and visual equipment? If so, we would like to hear from you.

We're looking for volunteers not only to help and support people who are blind or partially sighted in delivering presentations, but also to help present it as well.

An Access NI check is required for this role.

What will I be doing?

  • To accompany person with sight loss to the venue (preferably with own transport)
  • To set up PowerPoint Presentation
  • To give practical assistance to the person with sight loss as required (e.g. operating audio visual equipment, setting up equipment demo, acting as sighted guide)
  • Co delivering the presentation on general visual awareness and RNIB NI services to groups

What skills can I bring to this role?

  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Interest in working in the field of disability
  • Awareness of issues concerning people with sight loss
  • Knowledge of Audio Visual Equipment for Presentations e.g. PowerPoint
  • Sighted Guiding Skills - It is not essential to have all of the above as full training will be provided by RNIB

What qualities do I need?

  • Enthusiasm to learn new skills

When will I be needed?

Approximately 2 sessions a month - each session lasts 3 hrs (depending on the demand for talks)
