Do you have a strong interest in the issues concerning people with sight problems? Are you confident in front of large groups? Can you help dispel myths surrounding Visual Impairment? If so, we would like to hear from you.

We're looking for volunteers to help our sighted facillitators in delivering Visual Awareness Training to varied audiences.

This role is NOT subject to a CRB check or membership of the PVG scheme.

What will I be doing?

  • To assist the sighted facilitator in delivering Visual Awareness Training
  • To assist the team in promoting awareness of issues concerning blind and partially sighted people
  • To give a better understanding of visual impairment
  • To give some statistics on a number of areas of Visual Impairment
  • To dispel myths surrounding Visual Impairment
  • To help demonstrate the correct way to guide a visually impaired person
  • Travelling to different venues to promote visual awareness training

What skill and qualities can I bring to this role?

  • A highly reliable and flexible individual, you will be able to receive instruction and to relate to a wide range of people in an empathic and patient manner
  • Enthusiastic approach and identification with the RNIB NI values for empowering people
  • Confident public speaker with good verbal communication skills
  • Personable appearance and be a ambassador for RNIB NI

When will I be needed?

To be discussed with the volunteer manager, however as many hours as you can give is very much appreciated.

  • Induction
  • Understanding Sight Loss Pack
  • Expenses - all out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed including expenses to attend training
  • Supervision and support from your volunteer manager/ co-ordinator
