Do you enjoy walking, keeping fit and getting out and about in your local area? RNIB Scottish Borders are starting a new project to encourage people with sight loss to become more active. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to become a companion walker for blind and partially sighted people.

This role requires membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.

What will I be doing?

  • Acting as a sighted guide for individuals
  • Describing the scenery along the route

What skills and qualities can I bring to this role?

  • An interest in walking
  • Communication skills
  • Good sense of humour
  • Enthusiasm
  • Patience, empathy and a friendly attitude

When will I be needed?

Ideally, we would prefer you to volunteer once a week but we can be flexible around your availability. The day and the number of hours will be mutually agreed.

Galashiels area, Scottish Borders.
