RNIB Scottish Borders is a new service providing information and support to blind and partially sighted people within the region. It also provides a wide range of activities and services supported by volunteers. Befriending offers a supportive, reliable relationship to people who may otherwise be socially isolated.
A Volunteer Befriender will meet with a client on a regular basis, generally once a week / fortnight. They may meet up for a chat, could help with reading mail, or perhaps go out for a short walk, depending on the individual.
This role is subject to membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups scheme.
What will I be doing?

Keeping in contact with the client and agree in advance the date and time of visits

Assisting clients with a particular activity

Listening and talking with adult clients

Providing sighted guide assistance when required
