RNIB Scotland's Pathway Services support adults who have a learning disability and sight loss. We are looking for suitably qualified volunteers to offer complementary therapies to our service users. Adults with sensory impairment and learning disabilities can benefit greatly from therapies which offer tactile and olfactory stimulation and relaxation, so this would be a fantastic experience for them. Therapists will be supported by the specialist knowledge of resource workers.
This role is subject to membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups scheme.
What will I be doing?
Carrying out a therapy which is safe and suitable for service users in both the day and outreach services.
What skills and qualities can I bring to this role?

You must hold a recognised qualification in the therapy being offered, be a member of the appropriate professional body, and have your own indemnity insurance cover.

Some experience of supporting people with a learning disability is desirable.

Some experience of non verbal communication methods is desirable, although staff will support communication needs.

When will I be needed?
The duration and frequency of therapy sessions is flexible according to your availability and our needs. Service is open Monday - Friday, with core hours between 10 am and 3 pm.

What will I gain from the role?

Therapists will have access to specialist Visual Impairment and Learning Disability induction training free of charge. This is unique training which gives underpinning knowledge of the support needs of this service user group.

Therapists who are in the process of completing further studies may be able to use their voluntary sessions for case studies, subject to service user and carer permission, and observing client anonymity.

You will gain great satisfaction from working directly with people who have learning disability and suspected or confirmed sight loss.
