RNIB Cymru runs an annual holiday scheme for blind and partially sighted young people between 10 -14.

Llangrannog Urdd Activity centre is set in the cliff tops
of the beautiful coastline of Ceredigion. Accommodation is shared in en-suite rooms with bunk beds. Free time can be spent in the lounges, or within the complex grounds. The centre has a floodlit football pitch, countryside walks, large play equipment and a games room.

Activities will include: Quad biking, trampolining, tobogganing, swimming, skiiing, horse riding, go-karting, rope course, beach walk etc…
In addition we have lots of activities including Wii games, Karaoke, board games, sports equipment, plus accessible technology equipment and various low vision aids that the children and young people can use in their recreation time.

This role requires an Enhanced Check for Regulated Activity.

What will I be doing?

  • To support the young people in a range of activities

  • To support the young people during the recreational, evening activities
  • Support with independence skills as and when required.

What skills can I bring to this role?

  • The ability to engage with children and young people

  • A sense of fun and the willingness to join in!
  • Availability to stay away from home for the week's activities (Scheme 2)
  • Adaptable and flexible to meet the needs of those attending.

What qualities do I need?

You should be fun, outgoing and have a natural empathy with children and young people.

Monday 29 October - Friday 2 November, 2012

What will I gain from the role?

  • An understanding of the needs of young people with sight loss

  • Experience of working hands-on
  • A sense of satisfaction at being able to support a young person to learn new skills and become increasingly independent

What support will I be given?

  • Volunteers will attend an induction programme which contains Understanding Sight Loss and customer care training.
  • A days Children's Services training covering Child Protection, Health and Safety and basic First Aid is compulsory for all volunteers.
  • All out of pocket expenses will be fully reimbursed.
