Are you a good listener? Are you friendly, patient and able to build a good rapport with people? If so we need your help with our new Eye Clinic Liaison Officer befriending service.

The befriending service supports isolated blind and partially sighted people and hopes to build up their confidence. The service helps to ensure people feel less isolated in their homes and ensures they remain independent.

This role will require an Enhanced Check for Regulated Activity.

What will I be doing?

  • Working on a one-to-one basis with the blind or partially sighted person in the person's home.
  • Providing support and listening skills.
  • Providing information on RNIB and local services available.
  • Providing some guidance around basic issues e.g. how to contact social services.
  • Assisting with reading personal correspondence, newsletters and magazines and basic form filling where required.
  • Occasionally accompany customers to hospital Eye Clinic appointments.
  • Keeping in regular contact by telephone.
  • Providing regular updates to ECLO.

When will I be needed?

The hours for the post are flexible but will be during the day. Visits will vary from one to two hours to half a day a couple of times a month. Although the post is open ended, we would prefer a minimum of 6 months commitment.

Location

You will be visiting customers in their homes around the Carmarthenshire or Pembrokeshire area and will occasionally be asked to accompany them to hospital Eye Clinic appointments.
