As a natural listener with excellent attention to detail, your time and talent can help ensure that all documents transcribed by your local RNIB transcription centre are of the highest quality.

This role does not require DBS check.

What will I be doing?

Checking digitally transcribed recordings against the original print document for accuracy by:
  • Listening to digital recordings (in an audio or DAISY talking book format)
  • Noting any inaccuracies between the printed text and the audio recording
  • Correcting the inaccuracies and reformatting the structure of recordings as required

What skills and qualities can I bring to this role?

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good listening and reading skills
  • Ability to make notes whilst listening to a recording
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about DAISY format
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to input and maintain accurate records relating to the recordings
  • Happy to work unsupervised and listen to a variety of texts
  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines
  • Willing to closely follow instructions, in-line with standards and processes

When will I be needed?

This opportunity is open ended and there is no set time commitment, however we hope that volunteers are able to donate enough time to fully utilise the training provided by RNIB.

Specific hours can be discussed and agreed between you and your volunteer manager.

  • Understanding Sight Loss training
  • Expenses - all out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed including expenses to attend training
  • Supervision and support from your volunteer manager/ co-ordinator
  • Initial and on-going training sessions as appropriate
