To drive our clients to services, or driving blind and partially sighted volunteers to enable them to carry out their volunteering role. Own vehicle required.


This role requires an Enhanced Check for Regulated Activity.

What will I be doing?

Driving blind and partially sighted volunteers to and from their volunteer activity. Some blind and partially sighted people may have a guide dog or a wheelchair which you may also have to transport.

Volunteers are contacted by phone from Cardiff, Vales and Valleys (CVV). Don't worry if you have to say no to a particular request.

What skills and qualities can I bring to this role?

  • Driving skills
  • Map reading skills
  • Sighted guiding (full training given)
  • Friendly and outgoing personality
  • Patience and ability to work with wide range of people

When will I be needed?

Hours will vary depending on the volunteer or client you drive for. This may be as little as once a month, up to a few times a week. There will be some flexibility about the hours required for you to drive. The service runs every day until 11pm, the most frequent requests are for single journeys.

What support will I be given?

  • Induction
  • Understanding Sight Loss pack and Sighted Guide Training
  • Expenses - all out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed including expenses to attend training. Your passenger will donate £2 per single journey of up to 5 miles, and 40p per mile thereafter. This is a token donation to cover your costs.
  • Supervision and support from your volunteer manager/ co-ordinator
