Lending your voice and enthusiasm to help blind and partially sighted Welsh speakers access everything from newsletters to a favourite cookery book by digitally recording audio versions at your local RNIB transcription centre.
This role does not require a DBS check
What will I be doing?

Attending your local transcription centre on a regular basis to create audio recordings from text using a computer recording package

Reading a range of materials aloud clearly, accurately and in an appropriate manner

Describing non-textual materials such as graphs, photographs or illustrations clearly and succinctly
What skills and qualities can I bring to this role?

A good command of the Welsh language

A clear voice which is pleasant and engaging for the listener

Good attention to detail

Able to accurately and fluently read a diverse range of material, some of which may include technical/medical/scientific/legal terminology and foreign languages

Confident using a computer and learning a new software package

Comfortable working unsupervised in a studio environment

Flexible, reliable and willing to attend relevant training

Ability to work to strict confidentiality guidelines

Willing to closely follow instructions, in-line with standards and processes
When will I be needed?
This opportunity is open ended and there is no set time commitment, however we hope that volunteers are able to donate enough time to fully utilise the training provided by RNIB and ensure continuity of lengthy recordings such as books.
Specific hours can be discussed and agreed between you and your volunteer manager.

RNIB Transcription Centre Cardiff.
