Rail Travel Made Easy is an excellent resource for disabled travellers. The
site provided by the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC)
features hints and tips for travelling on the railways and contact details of
individual companies to help make your journey run as smoothly as possible.

Why should you use Rail Travel Made Easy?

For anybody who has used trains, whether they have a disability or not, can understand the frustrations of not being able to find the information you need and want. Rail Travel Made Easy does as its name suggests. The website provides information on planning your journey and where potential problems may exist, How to get assistance from rail staff and some excellent tips on how to make your journey as effortless as possible.

The Website is very well laid out and the information is presented in a clear manner. There have been some accessibility issues however ATOC have been working hard to fix these by working with blind travellers, RNIB and other disability groups.

As a blind traveller I often come across issues however like most I manage to cope with them and find a way to deal with them, some of the information on the website has given a solution to some of these issues. I like how the site gives you advice on how best to plan your journey and gives you a list of all the travel assistance numbers for individual train companies to make sure help will be there when needed. The site is also really well laid out and easy to navigate.

Tips and Tricks

If you regularly travel by train take a note of the travel assistance telephone number, in the event of a problem you can contact the train company directly.
