Ultra Magnifier + - App of the Month May 2012

Post details

Our App of the Month for May is Ultra Magnifier + for Android. Ultra Magnifier + is a very handy free application which allows a person with low vision to use their Android smartphone as a personal video magnifier.

Where to get it

What's so great about Ultra Magnifier +?

Ultra Magnifier + allows a user to magnify anything from a restaurant menu to a medicine bottle label, simply by placing the phone over the item and opening the app. A simple slider control allows the magnification level to be increased or decreased. There's also the facility to use the phone's LED flash as a light, allowing the user to read in dimly lit conditions.

A very helpful feature of this app is the Colour Effect option. When pressed, this button brings up a menu of colour options including normal, negative, sepia, mono, aqua and solarize. This will be helpful for many low vision Android users.

User Comment

We heard from Robin Spinks who's been using Ultra Magnifier + on his HTC One S handset.

Ultra Magnifier + is a very helpful app which I use in many situations, reading restaurant menus, credit card numbers and other small print. I used to carry around a hand lens but nowadays my smartphone has this job covered.
