BBC News - App of the Month September 2012

Post details

Our App of the Month for September is BBC News. The BBC News app allows you to keep up to date with the daily news from the BBC in an organised and easy to use fashion.

Where to get it

What's so great about the BBC News app?

The BBC News app arranges stories into categories which you can edit and personalise to create an experience that suits you. Using the app, you can also share stories easily via email, Facebook and Twitter.

The app also features font size controls that allow you to increase or decrease the text size to suit your needs and is compatible with VoiceOver, the screen reader built-into Apple devices.

User Comment

We heard from Steve Bingham who's been using the BBC News app.

I am new to the iPhone but have found this app to be easy to use and a great joy. My hearing is such that listening to the radio news is now very difficult but this is a great replacement. Basically it simplifies the BBC News website. As with the website the news is divided into basic subjects - Main Stories, World, UK, England, Sport, Technology, Arts and Entertainment. You can edit the opening screen so that stories from your chosen areas are displayed.
You can then choose to read a selected story or move through all the stories by using the View Previous or Next buttons. Using the View Next button you often get an extra story where it has not been removed from the sequence but has been removed from the headlines.
The BBC News app works very well if I need to listen to the news but I find it much better to switch the speech off and use my braille display without the chattering.
