ZoomText - DocReader v AppReader

Post details

While the DocReader and the AppReader are similar (in that they are both text-reading tools) it is how they work with the text to be spoken that highlights their differences.

The DocReader speaks available text in a separate program window and contains various controls, so that you can adjust different aspects of how the text is spoken and displayed. In contrast, the AppReader reads the available text inside the program window that currently displays the text. So, if you have a Word document open, then the AppReader simply starts reading the text in the Word document window. Of course, Appreader settings can also be adjusted and you need to do this in the AppReader Settings dialog box.

Most users will eventually get to a point where they have a preference for either the DocReader or the AppReader. Some users prefer to have the text spoken as it is in the AppReader, with the format of the document preserved. Other users prefer to pipe the text into the DocReader window and are accustomed to the feature anyway, having used it through different versions of Zoomtext over the years. However, you may find that the choice of which one to launch may ultimately depend on what you are reading. As ever, it is best to experiment and make up your own mind.
