The DocReader is useful when you want to listen to and read the content of a document or text area in a separate window. If you want to reformat the way something looks and reads then try it out:
Launching the DocReader
Open your Word document or email and make sure that the PC Cursor is in the text to be spoken. (If you don't have focus in a text area then the Reader options will be unavailable and will not start).
If you're using the mouse, bring up the Zoomtext Toolbar and click on the Reader tab. Now click on the DocReader button, located towards the end of the toolbar, to launch the feature.
If you're using the keyboard, press the keystroke of Alt Shift D to launch the DocReader.
Reading Text in the DocReader
When the text is piped into the DocReader, you can choose between two reading modes: Prompter and Ticker. These options are available in the DocReader toolbar.
To launch Prompter Mode, you can click on the Prompter button or use the keystroke of Alt P. This is the default mode and it automatically word wraps all the text that is sent into the DocReader window, formatting it according to the chosen settings. (Note that the original document is not shown in this mode.)
To launch Ticker Mode, you can click on the Ticker button or use the keystroke of Alt T. This mode has a ticker tape style one line view, with the displayed text formatted according to your settings. In addition, this mode also displays the original document with the currently spoken word highlighted.
In either mode, pressing the Enter key starts and stops speech.
To move to the beginning of the document, use Control Home. To move to the end of the document, use Control End.
To increase the magnification level use Alt Numberpad Plus. To decrease the magnification use Alt Numberpad Minus.
To increase the rate of speech use Control Numberpad Plus, to decrease the rate of speech use Control Numberpad Minus.
The arrow keys can be used to move around the text and you can read the word in focus using either the Spacebar or Control Numberpad 5 keystroke. (Also, note that you can press these keys to spell the current word (when pressed twice) and also spell it using phonetics (when pressed three times).
When you have finished reading with the DocReader, press the Escape key to close it down.
