Introducing AppReader for ZoomText

Post details

While the AppReader reads text similar to the DocReader it differs in that the text is not piped into a separate window. So, if you have a Word document open that you want to read, the AppReader will read it in Word. Visually, the focus is indicated by a highlight which can be adjusted via the AppReader dialog box in the main Reader menu.

Launching the AppReader

Open your Word document or email and make sure that you are focused on the text to be read.

If you're using the mouse, bring up the Zoomtext Toolbar and click on the Reader tab. Then click on the AppReader button, this is the first button in the Reading section towards the end of the toolbar.

If you're using the keyboard, press the keystroke of Alt Shift A to launch the AppReader. Reading will begin automatically.

Reading with the AppReader

The AppReader starts reading automatically when it is launched and, as with the DocReader, you can start and stop reading using the Enter key.

The keystrokes are essentially the same as with the DocReader. For example, Control Home moves the focus to the top of the document, Control End moves to the end.

To increase the magnification level use Alt Numberpad Plus. To decrease the magnification use Alt Numberpad Minus.

To increase the rate of speech use Control Numberpad Plus, to decrease the rate of speech use Control Numberpad Minus.

The arrow keys can be used to move around the text and you can read the word in focus using either the Spacebar or Control Numberpad 5. (Note that you can also press these keys to spell the current word (when pressed twice) and spell the current word using phonetics (when pressed three times).

To exit the AppReader mode press the Escape key.
