Tele Befriending

RNIB Tele Befriending groups are telephone social groups for blind and partially sighted people.

Over 100 Tele Befriending social groups currently meet together on a weekly basis. Adults with sight loss of all ages, ranging from 23 to 104 years of age, take part.

About the groups

The Tele Befriending groups are:

  • Small, friendly and an informal way of meeting new people.
  • Bringing people together who share similar interests.
  • Enjoyed from the comfort of home.
  • Free to join and we call you, so there are no extra costs to pay.
  • Made up no more than six people and each session lasts for approximately 55 minutes.

The groups meet over the telephone at the same time and on the same day each week. People have the opportunity to really get to know each other, as the group largely stays the same.

Trained volunteers facilitate the sessions to ensure that the conversation flows and that everyone feels comfortable about joining in.
